what, in the book of john, is supported by a second witness?
**then, at dawn, they led jesus to pilat and accused. pilat asked jesus "Are you the king of the Jews?"
[...] [the replies do not match because what appears in john is not supported by luke]
pilat said, "I find no basis for a charge against this man." +what pilat said, according to john, is supported in luke, but what happened between?
why did pilat ignore the accusations? the way the books are, demonstrates flawed originals- my solution follows the analysis.
analysis
1 did high priest question jesus? maybe! john 18.19+24 said yes and repeat "from high priest" 18.28 after rooster j18.27 and luke did not contradict.
(Luke 23:1 NIV) Then -[=minus]the Xwhole assembly Xrose and
*led him to Pilate+
(John 18:28 NIV) Then (the Jews)
*led Jesus (from Caiaphas) *to (the palace of the Roman governor. By now it was early morning, and to avoid ceremonial uncleanness the Jews did not enter the palace; they wanted to be able to eat the Passover.John 18:29 NIV So) *Pilate.
note: if luke denied the bit about the high priest, then it is consistent that he does not say "from".
john adds it is morning- matching the rooster crow in both versions.
they wanted to eat the passover- is consistent in john, but according to luke they ate it before the rooster crowed! no need to "be able to eat the passover"
!!
this is a critical problem about the core story CORE story of death- on the day of the passover is false if he ate the passover at its day as luke 22.7
to value the truth- is to deny both versions.
according to luke, they accuse, jesus admits he is king and pilate decides not guilty?
(Luke 23:2 NIV) they began to *accuse him, saying, "We have found this man subverting our nation. He opposes payment of taxes to Caesar and claims to be Christ, a king."(Luke 23:3 NIV) So Pilate asked Jesus, "Are you the king of the Jews?" "Yes, it is as you say," Jesus replied.(Luke 23:4 NIV) Then Pilate announced to the chief priests and the crowd, "I find no basis for a charge against this man."
note until "no basis" only sixty words.
why did pilate free him- if he said he is king? agreeing to the accusations. it is much shorter than john until pilates decision-
the key difference is that in john he says to be a king of a different world- not competing with the ceasar. this is what requires editing, however the two versions support each other very little.
compare
-Xcame out to them and Xasked, "What charges are you bringing against this man?" (John 18:30 NIV) "If he were not a criminal," they Xreplied, "we would not have handed him over to you." (John 18:31 NIV) Pilate Xsaid, "Take him yourselves and judge him by your own law." "But we have no right to execute anyone," the Jews objected. (John 18:32 NIV) This happened so that the words Jesus had spoken indicating the kind of death he was going to die would be fulfilled. John 18:33 NIV) Pilate then went back inside the palace, summoned Jesus and
*asked him, "Are you the king of the Jews?"
(John 18:34 NIV) "Is that your own idea," Jesus Xasked, "or did others talk to you about me?" (John 18:35 NIV) "Am I a Jew?" Pilate Xreplied. "It was your people and your chief priests who handed you over to me. What is it you have done?" (John 18:36 NIV) Jesus said, "My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews. But now my kingdom is from another place." (John 18:37 NIV) "You are a king, then!" said Pilate. Jesus answered, "You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me." (John 18:38 NIV) "What is truth?" Pilate asked. With this he went out again to the Jews and said, "I find no basis for a charge against him.
until "no basis" much more than 60. 218 words just in this section alone j18.34-38 and nothing in j is supported by l! it is supported by the prejudice called faith- but none of these details are supported by luke.
faith would be to say all details are true- they accused and pilate asked and they said he criminal and he questioned jesus, however-
a book that said jesus said "give to ceasar" should not have them saying "not pay taxes" and it is appropriate for john to leave that out. john adds that they want to kill him and cant.
from these 278 words, which details are supported?
l they accuse, but skips pilat ask- and the accusations do not match- j criminal who deserves death yet l king. not even one detail in j is supported by l with different details.
why in j does pilat ask about king? he was not accused of king- the book is flawed. compare: (Luke 23:2 NIV) And they began to *accuse him, Xsaying, "We have found this man Xsubverting our nation. He Xopposes payment of taxes to Caesar and claims to be Christ, a
*king."(Luke 23:3 NIV) So Pilate asked Jesus, "Are you the king of the Jews?"
until pilate asked r u king not even one detail matches.
what is supported?
**then, at dawn, they led jesus to pilat and accused. pilat asked jesus "Are you the king of the Jews?"
only the question matches but is not appropriate to the accusations of that book and worse the answers of jesus do not match- and he did "open his mouth" but what did he answer?
luke yes, but lacks ask yet in john jesus asks.
perhaps jesus did not answer anything and that is why john and luke each guessed what happened-
so my solution is "jesus did not open his mouth"
according to john jesus answers it is NOT "as you say" but a different king! not the same as pilat means- Xas and Xyou
to repair the two versions requires some editing!
how will pilate hear if jesus does not open his mouth?
pilate summons judas to ask what did he teach- judas sways pilate with the truth.
without these edits the books are flawed and christians base faith on flawed books.
**conclusion: [Jesus did not open his mouth. so Pilate asked the priests to bring his students, to ask what jesus taught, and they knew judas and called him. judas said that jesus taught "My kingdom is not of this world" so] pilat said, "I find no basis for a charge against this man."
comparison: "Yes, it is Xas you say," Jesus replied.(Luke 23:4 NIV) Then Pilate Xannounced to the chief priests and the crowd, "I find no basis for a charge against this man." sources: http://mppres.org/bible/john/
