Like all religions the Jew has customs for mourning and sadness
in the book of Samuel [second chapter 3.31-35]

I do not agree with this NIV but it is near enough:
31 Then David said to Joab and all the people with him, “Tear your clothes and put on sackcloth and walk in mourning in front of Abner.” King David himself walked behind the bier. 32 They buried Abner in Hebron, and the king wept aloud at Abner’s tomb. All the people wept also. 33 The king sang this lament for Abner:
“Should Abner have died as the lawless die?
34 Your hands were not bound,
your feet were not fettered.
You fell as one falls before the wicked.” And all the people wept over him again.
35 Then they all came and urged David to eat

this led to the custom of the mourners meal in Jewish custom
book "yore dea" mourners 378:3 and 8
now a mourner may eat beef 378.8 and must eat when sad, either from guests food 378.1 or own 378.3
if Jews are to be mourners on the date 9 ab then do it Jewish!
do not fast and do not forbid meat!
personally the historical tragedies are not a cause to be sad
I do not want to burn sheep
I do not feel that "not burning sheep daily is missing" something wonderful
sheep are food for me, [if I could afford it 15 dollars a pound!] not ash and not 700 burnt sheep per year or more!
I do not want forgiveness by burning a lady sheep but by Isaiah style "abandon my bad ways"
HOWEVER because of the recent great loss of life of the dead in my "family" and not just one, whose immediate family will be sad, but over sixty in a nation few in number, who died fighting the explosive-rocket-shooters in Gaza=WHO CONTINUE EACH DAY to shoot more explosive rockets, in an attempt to kill and injure Israelis, with NO distinction if that Israeli is an Arab, some of which shouted [last week] to shoot more rockets at Israel
or if Jew some of which protested in Tel Aviv "stop killing Arabs" yet the rocket shooters still shoot at Tel Aviv
the continued explosive rocket-attacks is also a cause for sorrow
as is the need to fight back
therefore I recommend that we eat the mourners meal tomorrow to recognize the loss of 60-70 Israelis fighting the explosive-rocket-shooter-terrorists, and recognize the need for comfort and through this meal [with immediate family] be comforted a bit.
